We are still buzzing over our first trip to the wonderful Dowse Art Museum this afternoon.
With the sun shining, extraordinary given the past couple of weeks in Wellington, we decided to head to this institution, who wowed us with their stunning array of current exhibitions.
We were particularly taken with Reverie: Contemplative Paintings from the Collection, especially Joanna Paul, whose portait here of her ex-husband, Jeffrey Harris called Jeffrey, is a shining example of her skill. (NB: This particular portrait is not in this exhibition.)
Along with other New Zealand artists such as Gretchen Albrecht and Toss Wollaston, Reverie captivates the viewer with a variety of images and eras.
We absolutely loved the Wunderrūma exhibition. The idea of displaying the fine ornamentations in clumps was genius.
Who knew that Colin McCahon made jewellery?
Check them out. It’s free and open everday from 10am-5pm.
