This arvo, we checked out the bustling Line Road in Glen Innes for the Glen Innes’ own arts, music and performance centre, Te Oro.

The name means a tonal reverberation or sound within a chamber and was gifted by Ngati Paoa, with the endorsement of Ngai Tai ki Tamaki and Ngati Whatua Orakei. It was inspired by the low drone created by winds moving over Mt Wellington’s volcanic crater and the idea of the community’s voices creating music and arts from the centre.

Today’s celebrations produced more than a drone and were more of shrieks, gasps and tears of long-awaited excitement, anticipation and fun in the afternoon sun.

Check out our coverage of the opening here.
